Pre-Vocational

Pre-vocational Services provide opportunities for individuals with limited work-related skills to learn job skills and other related social skills to enhance their ability to obtain employment in the future. Individuals learn skills such as following directions, accepting feedback and criticism from a supervisor and increasing their self confidence. Individuals are able to have paid work experiences and learn about the world of work as a result of this program. Clarification of employment goals and resources to assist individuals in reaching his/her objectives is the primary focus.

We offer individuals job preparation through actual paid work experience and vocational counseling. Individuals with developmental disabilities are introduced to the world of work, and are able to earn money while better defining their employment goals.

Eligibility Criteria:Individuals with developmental disabilities are eligible for the Pre-vocational Program. In order to be considered for these services, the individual will need to provide the program with documentation (medical, psychological and psychosocial) that demonstrates evidence of a developmental disability.

Covered services

Prevocational services teach general work skills and concepts such as:

    2. Attention span
    3. Effective workplace communication
    4. Effective social skills and conduct
    5. Following directions
    6. Motor skills
    7. Personal self-care and appearance
    8. Problem solving
    9. Public transportation
    10. Safety (e.g. pedestrian street safety)
    11. Task completion
